It’s time for a much overdue conversation on the equation that frustrates us all… CICO.
CICO is short for a very simple concept:
Calories In – Calories Out
In the grand scheme of things, those four words are what determines whether we gain, lose, or maintain weight.
If the left side of the equation (calories in) is greater than the right (calories out) on a prolonged basis, weight gain will ensue… and the opposite holds true as well.
Although rarely explicitly advertised, every fad diet out there targets this equation to assist in reaching the goal that so many of us are trying to achieve – improving body composition through weight loss.
And while today’s conversation will focus on those striving for a negative caloric balance… that is, to expel more calories than consume, it’s applicable to those who are trying to put on weight as well.
Whatever camp you’re in, today’s discussion will provide practical insights and tools to achieve your body composition goals through leveraging your nutritional intake and activity.
Let’s dive into it.
