Coming in as our next topic of discussion on Healthy in Bulk is the supplement that needs absolutely no introduction and that is caffeine. Surprising to some, caffeine is indeed a supplement and it’s widely used by high performing athletes and businesspeople alike for the physical and mental benefits that it offers. We’ll get into more specifics of those benefits here shortly!
A little background first… caffeine is the most widely used psychoactive substance (just meaning it affects the mind) in the world and it’s estimated that more than 80% (!) of adults, and a surprising number of young folks, consume caffeine on a very regular basis. In fact, you may be sitting in your comfy chair right now sipping on a cup of coffee reading the newspaper and suddenly you were interrupted by the Fitness in Bulk notification email (this information will be much more useful anyhow!). In all seriousness, caffeine is one of my absolute favorite supplements and I’d be lying if I told you this post was written by a decaffeinated Zach.
It's important to note that I’ll reference coffee quite frequently in this post, but coffee is clearly not the only means in which caffeine is consumed. At any point I mention coffee, replace it with whichever caffeinated beverage you consume most often (if you do so) such as green tea, soda, energy drink, etc.
