Hello and welcome to 4-Minute Friday where I share, in four minutes or less, the latest things I’m doing to enhance my health, save money, and make day-to-day life easier and more enjoyable.

Mindset I’m Diving Into:
The relationships we have with those around us are incredibly meaningful.
But what relationship may be the most important of them all?
The one we hold with ourselves.
I stumbled upon two quotes in the past week that made me reflect a little more on this topic.
“The person you have to spend the most time listening to in your life is yourself. Try not to lose their respect.” – Mark Manson
“The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.” – Marcus Aurelius
The texture of our mind matters… A LOT.
I think Marcus Aurelius illustrated it well – the quality of our life is heavily dependent on our internal chatter.
And unfortunately for many, that voice tends not to be the most kind.
To say the least.
Which leads to the golden question – can one improve their inner voice?
The answer is absolutely, but it takes time and dedicated effort.
Our internal dialogue wasn’t created overnight which means it can’t be overhauled in a day, either.
Although I’m just in the beginnings of workshopping this topic, there are two strategies I immediately thought of that can be leveraged here.
(1) Be accountable to your word
Self-confidence is built upon stacking evidence that you are the person who you say you are. If you tell yourself you’re going to get up when the alarm goes off at 6am and go for a run, then do it. Or else you start to lose the respect you have for yourself that’s so valuable, and the internal volume gets turned up.
(2) Do things that scare you
Our internal voice often uses the word “can’t” when talking to us. Maybe it’s to complete a big race, finish a workout plan, lose X# of pounds, or have that tough conversation. Yet when we do these things, our internal voice starts to realize that it doesn’t set the governor on our lives, we do.
Strategy I’m Using for Work:
Sometimes sitting down to get work done is tough.
We all experience that push back and procrastination.
Anything to give us an edge is welcomed with open arms.
Something I’ve recently benefited from is using YouTube ambience videos.
Sounds goofy, but just having these next to me can make sitting at my desk for a couple hours more tolerable. I can’t put my finger on it but the various environments to choose from and low-fi music are oddly enjoyable.
This strategy is especially useful if you have a TV in your workspace or an extra monitor on your desk you aren’t using, as you can see here.
Give it a try and let me know what you think!
Podcast I’m Enjoying:
Morning Brew Daily.
I’ve said it before – I’m not the biggest fan of traditional news.
Nor am I good at staying up to date with what’s happening in the world because of that.
And while I don’t think it’s necessary, I find it’s good to be at least a fair bit informed.
It also makes for good conversation points with others.
Morning Brew Daily is a podcast that offers a daily rundown on the latest happenings in the economy, politics, current events, and much more.
The co-hosts Neal and Toby are incredibly relatable and make for a fun listen.
Even when I don’t have a clue what they’re talking about at certain points, hearing them banter is worth the time.
It’s a perfect podcast to throw on during your morning commute!
What else?
If that belt is feeling a little tighter this morning, well you probably over did it a little yesterday. Don’t worry, so did I and millions of others. One day won’t do a thing in the grand scheme of things – get back on track today and don’t think twice about it!
Be the type of person you’d buy a drink for.
If you enjoy this weekly bite of information, please share it with a coworker, friend, and/or family member!
