Podcast Episode I’m Listening To:
Modern Wisdom: 21 Brutally Honest Lessons About Life ft. Alex Hormozi
I can now legitimately point to the podcast episode that I’ve taken the most notes on… and if you were to see my notes app, you’d know that’s saying something.
Although the episode is over three hours in length, I’m not exaggerating that it probably took me twice that long to get through it. This was due to the seemingly countless times I went back and took note of a valuable idea in addition to just appreciating the incredible insights from Hormozi.
This episode includes conversations on work-life balance, creating a passion, stepping out of your comfort zone, and much more.
Although I could write pages about it, here’s one of the biggest takeaways I wanted to share with you all:
Silver bullets don’t exist, just thousands of little BBs that add up.
If you don’t know, a ‘Silver Bullet’ is a metaphor referring to a simple, guaranteed solution to a complex, challenging problem.
It’s something we’ve all sought after one time or another.
Want to lose weight? Sure, just take this pill.
Want to get rid of your anxiety? Read these three self-help books.
Want to be better at golf? Get that new set of irons.
These are all silver bullet solutions and as far as I’ve experienced, they aren’t successful. If you’ve seen my golf swing, you know this to be true.
Hormozi poses a different viewpoint.
Rather than a single breakthrough, it’s the accumulation of small actions over time (little BBs) that make the difference.
These behaviors take discipline and a trust in the process which can be challenging to buy into.
Nonetheless, he didn’t say it would be easy.
Want to get that body you’ve always wanted? It’s going to take months upon months of dedicated strength training, cardiovascular exercise, and a regimented diet.
Improving your golf score by a few strokes will take hours of practice at the driving range, more than a handful of swear words, and maybe even investing in lessons from your local course.
Whatever it is for you, understand that there more-than-likely isn’t a quick hack to reach your goal… and that’s what makes it fun.
Accumulate these daily BBs and the results will come with time.
High-Protein Snack I’m Incorporating: Tuna/Chicken Dip
Some people call me crazy for this snack but let me talk you through it and then you can decide.
First off, canned tuna and chicken are incredibly cheap, loaded with protein, and are already cooked.
Time-efficient, cost-efficient, and protein-rich? Butter me up and call me a biscuit.
Here’s the super-simple recipe I use… if you’d even call it a recipe:
(1) Put two cans of meat (~10oz) in a bowl, preferably clean.
(2) Add Mayonnaise to cover. (I prefer one made with Avocado oil)
(3) Add Hot Sauce & Mustard (or just one of the two) & Pepper.
(4) Stir and adjust ingredient ratios as needed.
(5) Put on toast, chips, vegetables, or just consume as is.
Voila, there you have it.
Although you can spice it up by adding fancier things (boiled eggs, relish, etc), it takes me literally two minutes to make and contains roughly 50 grams of protein.
That’s something I can get behind.
If you go for the tuna, I recommend selecting a wild-caught variety!
Newest Video I Posted on TikTok:
I posted the above video on TikTok last weekend – my editing skills are still far from polished but improving with time!
Liking, commenting, and/or sharing the video with a friend would be greatly appreciated!
Also, shoutout to my good friend Doug Wallen for helping out with this. Although I wish I could say it was me, the dunk midway through the video was all him.
These legs don’t have what it takes any longer… nor did they ever.
What else
I’ll be traveling to Boston next week for a Physical Therapy conference. If you’re familiar with the area, send your must-dos for my time there!
I’ll soon be releasing a post on essential fitness equipment that you should have in your place of living. Don’t worry, it’s a relatively cheap list… until the end!
Execute the small decisions daily and trust the process.
